If you are looking for voice lessons (singing lessons) in Port Coquitlam, help us make your musical journey exceptional by joining our program today.
For those interested in singing, it is advisable to seek professional voice training from qualified vocal instructors. This personalized instruction can provide technical guidance, improve vocal control, and build confidence more effectively than self-study or online resources.
Our teachers are well-prepared and experienced to teach RCM up to Level 10 and the ARCT level.
We provide voice lessons for both children and adults in Port Coquitlam. All skill levels are welcome.
We use our voice in our lives daily. It is one of the hardest instruments to master but also one of the most rewarding.
The voice is an instrument of the mind and body, developed through love, training, musicality, and an understanding of the physical actions of the anatomy.
Like instrumentalists, voice students will, over time and through strong musical training, develop a sense of their instrument. They will begin to feel and hear colors and tones that are pleasant to the ear.
Whatever the student’s genre of choice (e.g., pop, jazz, musical theatre, classical, opera, or folk), each student will learn about proper voice placement for health and longevity.
There will also be a focus on music theory, sight reading, ear training, and repertoire to build the student’s skills and confidence. It is not only important to build a strong and healthy voice but also a strong sense of musicianship.
Daily practice in breathing and technique helps the student reach their goals quickly. The voice is a muscle, and like all the other muscles in the body, repetition is the only way to build strength and abilities.
This class is available by audition only. Students will perform genre-specific repertoire with a pianist, and the teacher will provide feedback on the performance. The class is limited to a maximum of 6 students.
Please consult with your teacher first if you are considering taking this class.
In a choir, individuals come together to create harmonious and powerful music through collective effort. It creates a supportive community, enhances emotional expression, and provides valuable life skills that extend beyond the realm of music.
Learn to sing with professional vocal training in a collaborative environment. This program is designed for all levels, featuring performances throughout the year. Please remember to bring a 1-inch binder and a bottle of water to your first class.
The Songbirds Choirs will have a performance opportunity at the end of each term.
This is an integral part of the musicianship process and is essential for those preparing for an exam. We recommend this class to all students who are entering their 4th year or higher of study and are comfortable with note reading and basic rhythmic understanding. A small assessment may be required.
Our teachers hold bachelor’s or master’s degrees from recognized universities, including UBC, and are well-prepared to teach RCM on their instruments. Chosen for their expertise and dedication through our rigorous hiring process, they deliver top-notch instruction, providing students with expert guidance and a well-rounded musical education.
We offer both private lessons and group lessons, and the choice is entirely up to your preference. Here are the general advantages of each type of lesson:
Private lessons, often referred to as “individual lessons” or “one-on-one lessons,” offer several advantages for learners in skill improvement.
Instructors can pay close attention to each individual's habits and personality, enabling more personalized support.
Students can ask questions right away if there are any uncertainties or nuances that are not understood.
Lesson time is dedicated solely to the individual, without competition from other students, making it easier to maintain focus.
Group lessons involve multiple learners, as opposed to one-on-one interactions between the teacher and a single student.
When starting to take lessons for the first time, having fellow beginners around can provide students with a sense of security and encouragement. Also, for children who may feel nervous in a one-on-one setting with a teacher, a group class might be more approachable.
Group lessons lack the flexibility to customize instruction for individual progress and levels. Unlike individual lessons, which can provide personalized attention, group lessons are challenging for teachers to adapt to each student's unique circumstances. This makes it difficult to address both strengths and weaknesses with precision.
If you are not sure which type of lesson is suitable for you or your children, don’t hesitate to consult with us. We are more than happy to help.
