Violin Lessons For Children and Adults

The violin is recommended for individuals aged 7 and older. We strongly suggest a year of piano instruction before delving into the world of the violin, though exceptions can be made.

Our skilled instructors at Tricity School of Music (TCSM) have taught students of all ages, from beginners to advanced levels. Because the violin is a melodic instrument, TCSM incorporates piano accompaniment into lessons, rehearsals, and performance opportunities.

This approach not only enhances students’ musicianship but also aids in the transition from playing solo to listening and playing alongside other musicians. Additionally, masterclasses are offered to further support students in their musical journey.

The violin is a social instrument. Playing duets and in small ensembles is common and fun! Students at Grade 3 level and above are encouraged to join a local youth orchestra where friendships and life-long memories await.

Our students are fortunate to have two local youth orchestras to choose from: Surrey Symphony Orchestra and Coquitlam Youth Orchestra.

Lesson Styles

We offer both private lessons and group lessons, and the choice is entirely up to your preference. Here are the general advantages of each type of lesson:

Private Lessons

Private lessons, often referred to as “individual lessons” or “one-on-one lessons,” offer several advantages for learners in skill improvement.

Personal Attention

Instructors can pay close attention to each individual's habits and personality, enabling more personalized support.

Real-time Questioning and Clarification

Students can ask questions right away if there are any uncertainties or nuances that are not understood.

Exclusive Instructor Time

Lesson time is dedicated solely to the individual, without competition from other students, making it easier to maintain focus.

private lessons

Group Lessons

Group lessons involve multiple learners, as opposed to one-on-one interactions between the teacher and a single student.

Playing Together, Learning Together

When starting to take lessons for the first time, having fellow beginners around can provide students with a sense of security and encouragement. Also, for children who may feel nervous in a one-on-one setting with a teacher, a group class might be more approachable.

Less Personalized Attention

Group lessons lack the flexibility to customize instruction for individual progress and levels. Unlike individual lessons, which can provide personalized attention, group lessons are challenging for teachers to adapt to each student's unique circumstances. This makes it difficult to address both strengths and weaknesses with precision.

If you are not sure which type of lesson is suitable for you or your children, don’t hesitate to consult with us. We are more than happy to help.
